    Pajero del Dia

Well Mark, having cast aspertions on your thread titles, I must now congratulate you on your entertaining and interesting posts. And also on your excellent photos, except that I don't like the way that LRP is glaring at me. Keep up the good work, I look forward to reading more. It's more than...

    Pajero del Dia

Hello again Mark I see you have managed to have your thread title changed to BOD. Bad news, you're still in trouble. :-O Bod is Scottish Gaelic for pen*s. According to "Scottish Hill and Mountain Names" by Peter Drummond, that well known and shapely pointy hill in the Cairngorms usually...

    Pajero del Dia

Hi Mark, I think you mean pájaro, not pajero, which I believe is a slang Spanish term for w**ker. :eek!: For this reason the Mitsubishi Pajero had to change its name in Spanish speaking countries.

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Hi Joseph here's some more info-hopefully helpful. A couple of days ago I paid a short visit to Craigendarroch and Burn o'Vat. Of course I was hampered by my current inability to walk more than a few hundred metres without falling over, and it was a very windy day. I saw nothing that you...

There were about a dozen Sand Martins yesterday at Mill of Strachan (thanks for the heads up Paul) and small numbers at Inchgarth Reservoir Cults. Loch of Skene is usually a good place to find them but I haven't looked there yet.

Lovely photos Mark. Maybe worth mentioning for anyone still to see the Smew, today it was on the smaller, upper pond. Contrary to Joseph's experience, I found her rather nervous, maybe because she felt more hemmed in than in the main pool. I've some photos too which I'm off to process shortly.

we stayed here recently and can really recommend it. Very central and quiet. They have vacancies in July, £415 per week. http://www.hideawaylodges.co.uk/

    Kincardineshire: The Mearns and beyond

I went to see the spectacle today - well worth it. 2 Brent Geese (pale bellied) on the banks of the Bervie at Inverbervie caravan site.

    whats this wee beauty ,,

Meadow Pipit. The very long hind claw is typical, and a Dunnock would have a grey collar.

Meadow Pipit. The long hind claw is a good indicator.

    Birds fae Torry

Not a great deal of interest yesterday round the Ness. A few Lapwings and the big flock of Common Gulls in Nigg Bay. The gulls all flew up at one point but I couldn't see the cause of the disturbance. It was bitingly cold but beautifully sunny. However, in keeping with the regular reporting...

    Birds fae Torry

Hi Joseph nice to meet you on the Ythan, and thanks for your kind comment on my photo of the Glonk in Torry. I hope you don't mind, but I've made a few adjustments to yours in PSE8 - removal of blue colour cast, brightness, a small crop to get rid of distracting stuff, and a little...

Not a lot to be seen today on the Ythan estuary, but this swan flypast was nice. Probably the most interesting thing was meeting Joseph and discussing all things avian and photographic.

Oh dear, if I'd realised you needed a Pheasant for the Girdleness list I could have brought you a pair of them from the garden any time. Ballogie estate is owe me quite a bit for feed, so I'd be glad to lose a few. Anyway, I too found the Glaucous Gull, where Joseph has indicated. As I was...

First winter Iceland Gull late yesterday afternoon in Peterhead harbour. Sorry for the delayed posting, been tied up most of the day. Now, what will the next few days' north winds bring?

Glaucous or Iceland Gull? NE Scotland

I struggle to separate these two, but I think this one is a Glaucous. Am I right? And what age please?

    Goldcrests..on the up or......?

Like others, I saw one in January (actually in deep snow and at -14C in upper Deeside) then none until October when there was a huge influx in NE Scotland from Scandinavia. These have now dispersed, and may account for any increased sightings across the rest of the UK. I never cease to marvel...

    Birds fae Torry

I had a couple of hours at the Ness yesterday. The hole next to the bench has had a tree planted in it. It's only a small one and I wouldn't give it much chance of survival. Anyway, more to the point, there was a steady stream of auks going north, in twos and threes. At first I thought they...
