R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

The R7 has a mechanical shutter... In ECFS the mirror is locked up. In ES, it's not used. In mechanical it's obviously used. Mirror slap should be pretty much eliminated with ECFS but you lose FPS performance. Canon usually has lower bit rates for mechanical shutter vs electronic shutter...

R7 for bird photography and birds in flight

With both ECFS and MS you get mirror slap and vibrations. Neither helps your image imho. The R7 also has a very poor buffer. And, the lack of a vertical grip makes using big White super tele primes very unenjoyable. Also, and finally, AF performance is linked to sensor readout speed. The R7...

They are very common and easy to see in South East Queensland.

    Starter camera

Whilst you could in theory use said camera, it may frustrate you more than give you pleasure. Nikon doesn't really have any entry level cameras at the budget end, so is a poor choice, imho, for someone dipping their feet into the waters so to speak. A 200mm lens will probably give you closer...

Lovely Peregrine Falcon capture. Fast birds, not an easy thing to get them sharp in flight.

We call these "double banded plovers" in Australia (same species name). Charadrius bicinctus — Double-banded Plover Their numbers are in decline in Australia (they migrate here after breeding in New Zealand) :(

    Canon Flagship R1 is Announced..!

That RF100-300 is typically used by sports pros and sometimes by people on safari, although I personally think that it's too short for the latter. You must get your feeder birds very close to use that 100-300. Canon is rumoured to be releasing a RF200-500 which would be really nice for us birders.

    Canon Flagship R1 is Announced..!

That is very disappointing. Surprised at the Z9, since most pro sports photographers are using Canon 1 series bodies with much lower resolution.

They are very beautiful birds. This is a male (note the pale crown - the female has a rufous crown). Devon park boundary road is the place to go at Oakey imho - I've seen a BSK (Black Shouldered Kite) there, red backed kingfisher (got a great shot too!), a pair of Nankeens, but no White...

    Canon Flagship R1 is Announced..!

I wonder how it compares to the R3? I find my R3 excellent, even with my older mark 1 500f4 prime.

    Greetings from the land downunder

many thanks Delia. Australia has some of the most amazing parrots in the world (being new to birding and birding photography, my life list is still not too good, and there are a LOT of birds that I want to see/photograph in the future). I have already posted an image in the gallery!

    Greetings from the land downunder

I originally hail from Sydney but have resided in sunny Brisbane since 2008. I started birding photography around 3 years ago after finding Duade Paton's superb YouTube channel. I'm still not getting the best images, but slowly improving. I've found that spending more time in the field has...
