    Sound recording setup for travel

Thank you all for the knowledgeable inputs. Shortly after originally posting this post, another trip to Australia popped up for next week, so I put something together quickly based on your suggestions. I went with a Zoom F3 (US$266) paired with a Rode VideoMic Pro+ (US$239), with the Rode...

    Sound recording setup for travel

Background: I travel to Australia from the US a few times a year. I was surprised to see that Merlin Sound ID was lacking and researched how it could get better. Basically, more sound recordings inputted in eBird checklists. I am looking for any recommendations for a good setup (recorder and...

Security Cameras repurposed as Birding Cameras

More than a year ago I installed a few low-cost (around US$50 - $75) Blink security cameras for my father in Virginia. No human trespassers were found, but he began sharing plenty of videos of wildlife. As a backyard bird feeding enthusiast, it immediately dawned on me that they could be used as...

    Orlando, FL Female Brown-headed Cowbird?

Thank you all! I'm more comfortable saying Indigo Bunting for eBird. I'm happy for it not to be a cowbird, if only for my bird seed budget. I also ran Merlin audio for the afternoon and Indigo Bunting showed up, but Cowbird did not.

    Orlando, FL Female Brown-headed Cowbird?

Butty, thanks. I do have a couple more photos. I'll say that it is roughly the same size as the painted buntings that use the same feeder. It is just as shy as those birds as well.

    Orlando, FL Female Brown-headed Cowbird?

Hello! This question is for a bird the arrived yesterday in Orlando, FL. I was hoping that a female Indigo Bunting arrived at my millet feeder, but now think that it could be a female Brown-headed Cowbird. I'm trying to put an accurate listing down for eBird, but small female birds can be a hard...

Looking for suggestions on mirrorless camera and associated lenses

Thanks for the great suggestions. I really like the idea of an R5 paired with the 100-500mm and the 1.4x. To be honest, I've seen the mention of the R5 in online reviews and should have paid more attention. I was looking at a Nikon Z9 only because the Z6iii release seemed iffy in terms of time...

Looking for suggestions on mirrorless camera and associated lenses

Hi. I've really been enjoying birding here in Orlando, FL and am looking to invest in a new camera. For starters, I'm currently using a Canon 5D and usually use an EF 28-300mm lens while birding. Both are from 2006 and weren't purchased with birding in mind at the time. I want to go mirrorless...

    Hi

Hello. I just (last Fall) moved to Orlando, FL and am getting more interested in birding. I've been a novice birder since around 2010, and even made the trek up to Ithaca to visit Cornell. With so many great birding opportunities around here, it's hard to not get more involved with it. I've...
