    Zeiss SF 10x42 dissection

The futuristic design still has something of the classic lines (a kind of Mercedes of binoculars). The fleshy body with curved lines helps to feel the consistency when gripping. Also, the slightly elastic armor prevents the binoculars from slip out of hand The beautiful coating of the...

For the same model of roof binoculars which one is less prone for CA 8x32 or 8x42?

I borrowed the medical term "dissection" with the meaning of presentation of my binoculars in the smallest hidden details and aspects, like a detailed medical report. I know, "dissection" it sounds macabre in any language, but that's not my intention, it's just a figure of speech 😁. Binolover, I...

    Bins with longer eye relief

I had Nikon Monarch 5 ED 10x42 the old model. It had very long eye relief. I also wear glasses and I can say that the Monarch 5 ED has one of the largest eye relief. I saw that in the official specifications the old Monarch 5 ED and the new M5 have the same eye relief of 18.4mm, so they should...

Field Review of my (four) binoculars and my gear setup

A new experience with Nikon Monarch HG 8x30 and Olympus/Leica combo! 🔴I have always appreciated the extremely small volume but also the resistance of these MHG 8x30 in difficult conditions. I went out for a photo session in the forest full of mud! I stayed hidden and sneaked behind the bushes...

Leica Pocket like all purpose bino?

Yes, it is something similar to Lotutec from Zeiss (in my opinion, the most effective of all). Nikon also has such a coating on its top models. Swarovski had Swarodur, but for some time it gave up this treatment for eco reasons. Binoculars with such coatings are very easy to wipe and also...

Leica Pocket like all purpose bino?

I forgot to mention a very important aspect. Leica Ultravid 8x20, unlike the Curio, has the advantage of the AquaDura layer on the outer lenses, which makes cleaning easy and durable without traces over time.

    Nikon HG 8x30 dissection

I bought it used, so I didn't have this focuser problem! But I think that in time will loosen up!

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Maybe because the border between humour and irony is a very thin one! Unfortunately Swarovski did their "homework on the armoring" after we bought the binoculars from them, and not before...

Leica Pocket like all purpose bino?

Yes! I would say that, in some chapters, the Ultravid 8x20 is even better than Curio 7x21! I would start with the subjective one related to design. For lovers of pocket binoculars, the jewel aspect is obviously in favor of Ultravid. Curio has a somewhat unfinished design, giving the impression...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

For me, a small pocket binocular must also be beautiful. I say this because these small tools are design objects in themselves, and they are usually used as emergency binoculars, more admired for their appearance than their use! But if, in addition to this attractive design, they also have very...

    What's your most used binocular?

For me, the most used binoculars are Zeiss Victory 10x42 from home or for astronomy. But when I have to backpack photo equipment, the Nikon Monarch HG 8x30 is the most used due to its extremely compact volume. It does not mean that my Leica Ultravid 8x20 does not also have its place. When I...

Leica UV 8x20 vs Zeiss VP 8x25

Yes, keep it simple! I also often think that my four binoculars are too many, and I think I should only have three, two or even one, but it is very difficult to take this step! So keep it simple it is the best way!

    What’s your favorite 7x42 binoculars

I like the small and bright AFOV of the Zwarovski Habicht 7x42. Yes, I like it! :)

    Nikon HG 8x30 dissection

Nikon MHG 8x30 is a completely different pair of binoculars than the M7 8x30. MHG is better in all optical and mechanical aspects with the exception of chromatic aberrations, where the difference was not so noticeable. MHG 8x30 is definitely superior to M7 and for me worth twice as much the M7 8x30!

Leica UV 8x20 vs Zeiss VP 8x25

MHG/Zeiss SFL 8x30 is much smaller than an 8x42. You can see in the pictures that it is only slightly larger than the Victory 8x25. I had all four of these binoculars together: Leica Trinovid 8x20, Leica Ultravid 8x20, Zeiss Victory 8x25 and Nikon MHG 8x30. I wanted to have two different compact...

Is it worth to buy the Swarovski curio 7x21 if i already have a Zeiss Victory Pocket 8x25?

If I were to choose only one compact binocular, it would be the 8x30/32 format (or to the extreme maybe something 8x25 format). But we you have the possibility of several compact binoculars, then I would choose two: 1 an ultra compact 20/21mm binocular 2 and a compact 30/32mm binocular in this...

The term of Resolution, Micro Contrast, Contrast

Tringa45, tenex, Yes, you are right! I borrowed the term acutance/micro contrast from photography, and I wrong extrapolated from photography to visual. So for visuals (binoculars) we can only talk about resolution or contrast when it comes to sharpness, micro contrast being a term only for...

The term of Resolution, Micro Contrast, Contrast

From astronomy documentation! It is a term use in astronomy. In romanian we call "grosisment rezolvant" in english maybe "resolving magnification". Objective diameter/2= resolving magnification of objective

The term of Resolution, Micro Contrast, Contrast

Of course, the micro contrast can only be seen with a booster magnification not naked eye. I use the Leica Ultravid 8x20 as a booster. So my 8x magnification is enough to exceed the resolving magnification of the objectives of any binoculars. (the resolution magnification of an objective is the...

    Let's Play a Game Called .......

On a distant roof I saw a gull (Larus argentatus) at a distance of 195m. I don't have a rangefinder but I do have google map ;) It was in a day with sun light filtered by a few thin clouds. The gull cleans his feathers. I saw the back of the wings with discreet streaks of gray. The tips of the...

    My only four hand-held binoculars

Yes, I upgrade from Trinovid to Ultravid My experience with the Zeiss Victory SF 10x42 regarding the resolution was the following: Tested on the resolution chart, SF it is one of the most resolved binoculars tested by me in the central area (of course together with other good binoculars ). I...

The term of Resolution, Micro Contrast, Contrast

The terms of resolution, contrast, micro contrast. To clarify these terms, here is a brief summary of how I understand and use these certain terms in my evaluation of binoculars or photo lenses: RESOLUTION: It is also called "Definition". Resolution it is the ability of an optical system to...
