    Birding at Loch of Kinnordy

    Birding at Loch of Kinnordy

Popped into the main hide for a blether, most of the loch at the west end was still frozen, highlight was 5 Whooper Swans. Heard a report of two White Tailed Eagles over Lintrathan earlier, but we missed them. Last week a male Hen Harrier was seen, so I shall keep my eye out just in case.

Out again with the gopro on Lunan beach this time, a couple of paddleboarders surfing pushed the birds out on the water, but a dozen and a half Oystercatchers and a couple of dozen Sanderlings were at the mouth of the Lunan Water

Red Kite day on our drive today, four either end of the Cairn O'Mount and another on the "slug" road on the way back. Not 100% but I think there were Crossbills calling next to the Boat Inn at Aboyns too.

    Angus Hills and Glens

Funny old day in Glen Clova and Glen Doll, went looking and listening for the Red Deer rut which we found, but they were a long way off due to the large shooting party and about a dozen cars going up and down the Glen most of the time. We got a Short Eared Owl on the way back near Rottal for the...

A very quiet walk around the fields today, the highlight was some Marsh Woundwort and a Holly Blue butterfly. Seems the summer migrants have moved south after an overnight temperature of 5 degrees, not one farm bird to be seen. Still a handful of Swallows and House Martins in the village, Swifts...

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

We had a nice run over the Cairn O'Mount with first a Red Kite near the Fasque estate and then a White Tailed Eagle near Finzean, which soared over us as we got out of the car to watch it for several minutes, an adult bird which I think was a male.
