The Spread Of The Red Kites

Glad to hear these Kites seem to be doing o.k.in several counties although if they become common I suppose they become all of a sudden uninteresting to some. I am new to birding but it seems to me they are passage birds. Down this way they seem to favour the fresh cut silage fields and don't...

    Red Kites,North Cornwall.

Saw three red kites together with two buzzards over michaelstow near camelford this afternoon. Well pleased as I have never seen them before and was surprised to see them with two buzzards apparently getting on fine together.

Having now looked in another book I think you are right Stevethehydra,Wheatears it is then. All four birds seem to be female and are different plumage to the males that I normally see on the cliffs. Many thanks for your help.

    Bird I.d. please u.k.

I have seen Wheatears on the cliffs here and although similar I don't think they are but a possibility perhaps, many thanks for your suggestion. These four birds have been on the roof ridges from first thing this morning until just before the light faded and all this time they were catching...

    Bird I.d. please u.k.

We have had four birds catching flies all day,up on my next door neighbours ridge tiles ,here in north Cornwall. About the size of a small starling ,very sleek, long legs and a fly eaters beak. Rusty coloured breast going down to a creamy /pale yellow. The tail has black which gives way to white...

    Blackcap.

I presume a Blackcap is a fairly common bird to you guys but in my garden it's normally Blackbirds,Starlings,Robin and a few tits. This morning saw this robin like bird, without the red breast but with a red/brown cap on her head. Didn't know what it was but after consulting the only books i have...

RSPB hdx or hd. is there much difference?

Yes Typo it was the Discovery and also it was the Leica Trinivid . The Leica was an older model, about twenty years old roughly but in amazing condition, you could tell the quality of them but didn't suit me which is a shame oh and over my budget really.

RSPB hdx or hd. is there much difference?

Well i have tried Opticrom,Hawkes ,Hilkinson,Breeder and even a pair of Zeiss Trinivid. In the end I narrowed it down to Hilkinson and Opticrom,i then had to decide 8x30 or 8x40 as the 10x the shake was not good. My wife who was with me loved the 8x 30 Opticrom, lovely and light and surprisingly...

RSPB hdx or hd. is there much difference?

Many thanks Troubadour,i have spent some time with my wife's 10x42 cheapo's today trying to work out this i.p.d.thing. She sees one large image straight away and her eyes are very close together,if i then use them i have to widen them about half way to get a sort of one image. I also noticed...

RSPB hdx or hd. is there much difference?

Many thanks for your reply Dipped. I seem to remember that i was viewing the cheaper ones first then tried the Vistron and then was offered the hdx. so i probably never got to the wpg. If i get a chance i will try them,if nothing else it will be part of a learning curve because to be honest i...

RSPB hdx or hd. is there much difference?

Many thanks for the welcome and the reply,Typo. I seem to have an eye problem because on most binoculars that i have tried i see two images,on some i can nearly get a large single view but not many. The rspb one seemed the best for me so far but only tried five or six and was thinking more price...

RSPB hdx or hd. is there much difference?

Was trying new binoculars at Arne and thought i had settled on the Viking Vistron 10x42 just about in my price range but the helpfully assistant said try these before you make your mind up. So tried the RSPB HDX which for me were amazing until i asked the price, over £600. I'm now seeing a...
