Goldcrest sound everywhere but how best to spot them ? Cabinteely woods, South County Dublin

Good point on mixed tit/Goldcrest flocks. Habitat margins (hedgerow/woodland edges) can be good, but old yew trees in parks and cemeteries are generally excellent.

    Optolyth Spotters Scope

Welcome from Faversham. I owned one for a few years and it did the job, but the image quality isn't great by modern standards.

Which fieldscope eyepiece is this please?

It cae as standard with most of the early fieldscopes so is just relatively common. The coatings aren't as good as the later versions and the FoV isn't wide, but it's still a very good optical performer.

Anyone using the new Swarovski NL Pure 10X52s for general birding?

Komz 8x30 do you could probably use good quality acetate lighting gels as disposable ones.

Swarovski NL 14x52 and SLC 15x56 - a brief comparison

Agreed - I tried both before buying the SLC, and whilst the Conquest's only major flaw was CA and not a bad instrument the SLC is much better.

Binocular advice - tempted by the Zeiss

I've not tried that model but have used a pair of their Marine series and thought they were very good for the price. Enjoy them.

    Upgrade to Swarovski EL?

They're different... Yes edge sharpness and CA control is better on the ELs but not everyone likes the flatter field view and the cooler colour tone. Focusers are different too - ELs don't have the diopter drift Leicas sometimes acquire with age, but there is slight resistance turning the...

I'd check local climbers/outdoors shops to ee what they've got - plenty of makes do that style. Lowe Alpine Mountain Cap or similar. What fits your head best will vary.

    Best alpha binoculars 10 x in 2024

It's a good starting list. If you're happy going used the Swarovski 10x32 EL are arguably still up there as a compact option, and if you don't mind the weight don't discount the Swarovski SLC 10x56.
