    Micro help please

That probably means it is Ephestia woodiella but it's impossible to be 100% sure without dissection.

    Pugs 3

    I'd agree with Grey.

What's singing at Loch of the Lowes

Haha, I think almost every Norfolk birder has made that mistake! Apparently, it's part of a weather station run by the UEA.

    Parabolic set-up

I bought this parabolic microphone a year or two ago and it came with the cheaper microphone (the one listed as the 'educational' microphone). I can confirm it works very well and is simple to use. The amplification is very effective if you aim the microphone directly at the bird (it gets easier...

    Baby Garden Warbler, Norfolk?

Thank you very much for this helpful reply. I'm happy to go with baby Garden Warbler, as that was my original impression.

    Baby Garden Warbler, Norfolk?

Thanks for the suggestion, it could be a Blackcap. The birds nearby that I assumed were the parents were definitely not Blackcap though, but maybe I assumed wrong.

    Baby Garden Warbler, Norfolk?

Is this a baby Garden Warbler or Reed Warbler? Seen on 22nd June 2019 in a bush beside the river. I glimpsed what I assume were the parents on some nearby reeds but they disappeared into a bush before I could get a proper look. Thanks, Louis

Thanks, I'll give them a read.

    Pied or White Wagtail?

Thanks everyone! I'll keep looking for a local White Wagtail then (and hopefully get some decent photos).

    Interesting Canada Goose

Hello, I saw this interesting Canada Goose with a flock of Canada Geese at Blickling Lake (Norfolk, UK) in December. Could it be a different subspecies or a hybrid? Thanks, Louis

    Pied or White Wagtail?

Is this a Pied or White Wagtail? Taken on 13th April 2017 in the Norfolk countryside. Is there a simple way to tell them apart? Thanks, Louis

    Best Microphone For Parabolic Dish

Hello, I have a 50cm diameter parabolic dish that I use for nocmigging. Currently, I use a cheap lavalier microphone that came with it. However, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a better quality microphone (preferably under £50) to use. I understand an omnidirectional microphone is...

    Barn Owl near Winterton

They have been reliable at Stubb Mill (a short walk from Hickling NWT) recently. I suspect there are plenty between Horsey and Winterton, but I don't venture that way too often. Hope this helps, Louis Note - people may be reluctant to give loads of information to prevent disturbance to...

    Melanistic marsh harrier? @ Ltu

Sorry to bring up an old post, but I've been using old posts as a testing resource for my ID skills recently. Isn't this most likely to be a Lesser Spotted Eagle?

    Norfolk birding

It's fairly easy - head towards the beach from Lady Anne's Drive (the path is mainly a boardwalk) and then head East (turn right) after you go down some steps. Keep walking until you come across the roped-off area. Walk around the roped-off area a few times and with a bit of luck you should see...

Dersingham bog and Brecks- any info would be ENORMOUSLY appreciated

Well said kb57. I've only given away details that can easily be found elsewhere online for the reasons you mention.

Dersingham bog and Brecks- any info would be ENORMOUSLY appreciated

I'm afraid I've never been to Dersingham or Roydon, I'm just going by what I've heard. Roydon is just as good, if not better, as Dersingham. The Rough-legged Buzzard should still be present when you plan to go (of course it's not guaranteed though). If you can wait another year, there may be...

Dersingham bog and Brecks- any info would be ENORMOUSLY appreciated

I'm afraid the Golden Pheasant have died out. I believe Dersingham Bog does get Hen Harrier and Merlin at dusk. I would recommend Lynford Arboretum, walk South from the car park and Firecrest can often be found beside the path anywhere between the car park and the paddock from what I've heard...

    That's definitely a Shelduck. It's probably wild.

Best Website To Log Sightings, UK

Thanks, I have looked at BirdTrack, but I couldn't see anywhere where lists are stored. I might be wrong though.
