    Fascinated by walking twigs

It hung around for a few days and then moved on. I live in a pine forest so it's fitting and also interesting that this one has green legs that resemble pine needles. I should do a little research on these guys!

    P&S camera, time to upgrade?

Thank you for the comments. I had an old Fuji Finepix before this, and to be honest, this Nikon wasn't much of an upgrade. It's only slightly better for macro shots. The Fuji gave me some really nice distance shots. I guess I'll have to decide if I want to spend the money for a higher grade...

Grouse ID in northern Michigan US

Thanks for your input. I am more convinced of ruffed when I google photos online. The illustrations in my book were very misleading. This morning I also posted on a Michigan bird forum and the consensus there was ruffed also. They said spruces are quite rare in the lower peninsula, as...

    Fascinated by walking twigs

Found this one on my house last summer. Not the best photo, but I was happy to get the shot. I don't see them as often as I used to. I think they are so cool!

    P&S camera, time to upgrade?

Seeing all the awesome bird photos has made me aware of how bad my photos are. I have a Nikon Coolpix L810, which I bought a few years ago for taking macro shots in my aquariums. I've been disappointed in the quality of the outdoor photos. Here are some examples of the colors not looking...

    Hi from Michigan

Thank you for the welcomes! KC, I know quite a few people who went to Myrtle Beach this week for spring break. Lucky you, dealing with all us winter-crazed Michiganders ;)

Grouse ID in northern Michigan US

Thanks for the feedback. Photo taken in a wooded subdivision, predominately pine. I added the photo to the gallery if that's okay.

Grouse ID in northern Michigan US

This grouse has been hanging around my birdfeeder all winter. It's quite tame, barely moves when I go out to fill the feeder. After looking up some photos I don't think it's a ruffled grouse, which are common here, but rather a spruce grouse (female). My bird book shows them as being common...

    Hi from Michigan

Hi all, I live in northern lower Michigan. I've been a nature and bird lover all my life, taught by my dad to appreciate and respect nature. It's been a long, cold, and snowy winter here! Still lots of snow on the ground. I have two feeders in the front and back and have been busy keeping...
