Improve on ATX85 TLS APO and Lumix GM1

I did a test using the remote control function over Wifi. The screen showed nicely on the mobile phone, including the focus peeking. It requires a few steps to get going, so its not for a situation where there is a hurry. But the 6 inch phone screen is much easier to view than the one on the camera.

Improve on ATX85 TLS APO and Lumix GM1

I think I have got some great gear here. Its given me some really awesome captures indeed. This M43 camera is said to be the smallest system camera available. The GM1 really small, does a really good job. But, however, on the other hand, at the same time, its so small it doesn't have a...

Unknown passerine from Michigan USA, June

Thanks! Perhaps Willow Flycatcher is an option, could fit the color a bit better?

    Sarek, Sweden

The Siberian tit need you to travel to the northern third of Sweden. Its quite hard to find but tend to like old conifer trees in old un-touched forests adjacent to the higher parts. You find the Siberian jays in the same places. They can be found further south as well. The attached pic shows...

    Audubon HR5 vs Ultravid

I have now also done a short test with the HR5 against the Swarovski SLC 8x42 HD. The SLC was made 2010 and is the previous generation. Ergonomically the focuser, diopter adjustment, eyecups is clearly better on the SLC. On the HR5 the diopter creeps as I walk around. I would say that the SLC...

SF 10x32 specs vs Nikon MHG 10x42

The thing is that the SF 32s are longer than the small 42s. With a small weight increase you have a 42 with its benefits in about the same package. But maybe no light 42s will compete optically. Johan

SF 10x32 specs vs Nikon MHG 10x42

The Zeiss is 5 mm longer, 150 vs 145 mm. The Monarch HG is 90 grams heavier, 680 vs 590 g. The close focus is 1.95 m for the Zeiss and 2 m for the MHG. Eye relief is 19 mm for the Zeiss vs 17 mm. The field of view is 130 m for the Zeiss vs 120 m. The price is 12490 SEK (1170€) for the MHG...

    Audubon HR5 vs Ultravid

Thanks for your replies Richard, Jim and Ed. Clearly this binocular has some credibility capital built up through the years. I think its really good as a all purpose binocular. Today its resolving power helped me give wonderfully detailed views on a few Northern Wheatears, a Whinchat and a...

    Audubon HR5 vs Ultravid

Continuing on the comparison between the two... If you wear glasses the Ultravid is much better (perfect) than the Audubon where the field of view become much narrower. In fact even without glasses I like folding the eyecups down => more immersive view. The focuser and diopter is very good on...

    Audubon HR5 vs Ultravid

Here is a pic of the binocular, its bag and orig strap. On the left prism housing there is a label "Sveriges Ornitologiska Förening", now known as Birdlife Sverige. This was the official binocular of the society. The best compromise if you would like only one. Back then people often used 7x or...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Four garganeys (3m, 1 fm) flying around together over lake Hornborgasjön.

    Audubon HR5 vs Ultravid

I bought my pair of 8.5x44 new in the nineties. Used them as my main bino until I bought a Leica Ultravid 8x42 non hd. The Audubon has mostly been on a shelf for above ten years while I have been enjoying the Ultravid mostly for its ergonomics and that it handle the Swedish winter so well. The...

    France - Larus cachinnans ?

A bit of a mystery bird, thanks for sharing. The yellowish legs indicate the type of argentatus that we see now and then here in Sweden passing through to Finland. But the small eye and the rounded head does not fit. Perhaps it has fluffed up its feather to create the almost illusion of a very...

    Mallorca 2018

Thanks Stew, agree with you on Son Real, such a great place. Perhaps the singing Wren in Boquer was the same I had one or two weeks later. Needed to be cheered up after that disappointing loss in the WC :-)

    Mallorca 2018

Now back home in Sweden, some problems with the air travel through France could apparently be solved through flying at 40000 feet. Perhaps a country ATC does not reach that high up. Friday I spent a few afternoon hours at Boquer in search of raptors. According to some birders from UK I met a...

Family trip Alcudia-Soller-Cuber-Alcudia today. In Soller a strange singing blackcap? Had Finch like jupp jupp in the song. I'll see if I can share a recording later. Just N of Soller at approx 13:30 a dark blackish raptor, short view. Disappeared before I could spot it with binos. Medium to...

    Mallorca 2018

Thanks for checking up the gull. Perhaps the English name is from an earlier era. Not good enough sighting too book it. Afternoon today a walk through northern part of Son Real from Son Baulo. Coots, moorhen, collared dove by the pond. Audouins gull, a handful, by the beach. Kentish by the...

Just now 5 Greater Flamingos still present outside Collibar hide 12. Yesterday morning an early visit to S'Albufera. Lots of species singing. Got Purple heron, grey heron and Night heron no visible Squacco yet but I think they are in the colony along the main canal. A Serin was singing close...

    Mallorca 2018

Heading down to Alcudia area from Sweden tomorrow. Family vacation but hope to spend some time at S'Albufera and Son Real which I enjoyed greatly last year (July 2017). I especially remember the Western reef heron that landed just in front of the Sa Rosa hide. What a sighting! As if it wasn't...
