    Nikon ED50A breakage

I also used aradite to bond a strip of fibreglass ribbon over the join (which is why it looks a bit messy).

    Nikon ED50A breakage

Well, I've had the telescope returned to me still in 2 pieces, the only positive thing about my experience with Nikon is that I wasn't charged for the courier to and from their repair shop in Holland, nor for them to take a look at it. I have since received an automated email from them asking...

    Nikon ED50A breakage

I'm going to give it a try, I'll probably end up with it a little off too! Very annoyed with Nikon.

    Nikon ED50A breakage

Not a new problem to post on forums, my Nikon ED50A telescope has broken in half after 11 years of use and Nikon have stated it is unrepairable! I have been offered a 20% discount on a new one but as I don't want to throw good money after bad I have declined their offer and have requested they...

Gulls at Minsmere, Suffolk, UK, 19th March 2020

These 3 gulls were seen on The Scrape at Minsmere, I know the one on the right is a Herring Gull but is the middle one a Caspian Gull and the left one a Yellow-legged Gull? Any ID help is appreciated from the attached record shots. Thank you.

    Juvenile gull species

I saw his gull in Istanbul, Turkey, last week and at first thought it was a juvenile great black backed gull but now I am not so sure as GBB Gulls are vagrants to Turkey. It was larger than nearby juvenile yellow legged gulls and shows broad pale tips to the tertials but doesn't look quite right...

    Odd Gull in Devon

Maybe - but eye dark and bill all dark with no pink, an odd bird indeed.

    Odd Gull in Devon

Record shots of an odd looking gull on the beach at Wembury in South Devon on 14/9/18. Long legged, long billed with weak gonydeal angle, larger than nearby herring gulls, pale head and underparts, distinctive shape, scruffy looking in heavy tertial/primary moult. Looked very Caspian gull like...

    Gull ID

Thanks for the pointers, unfortunately I didn't manage to get any decent photos of the tail pattern in flight. Gulls certainly baffle me but I am taking the plunge and trying to get my head around their ID in non adult plumages. This bird certainly stood out from the rest but I still feel it is...

    Gull ID

Sorry, you are quite right, the lower bird in the photo is a juvenile LBBG with the ?G the upper bird - it doesn't look quite so white in this photo probably due to angle/lighting. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I am still unsure of its ID, doesn't really fit either LBBG or YLG but I still...

    Gull ID

Too small for great black backed, slightly larger than nearby herring and lesser black backed gulls. Bill not heavy enough either.

    Gull ID

I am still trying to get my head around gull ID and was wondering if the attached photos are of a juvenile lesser black backed gull. It was preening on the beach at Perranporth, Cornwall, on September 8th amongst herring and lesser black backed gulls but was quite outstanding amongst them, being...

Seen from a pelagic boat trip off the coast of Cornwall, UK, on August 27th 2016. Is it a juvenile YLGull? Pale head and large bill noticeable amongst other juvenile gulls. Any ID help much appreciated. Stuart

    Bay of Biscay birds

I seem to have started up quite a debate from a simple enquiry ! I have travelled with the Company of Whales twice now and will do so again - a great trip with excellent sightings of cetaceans but both times have been poor for sea birds due to the weather conditions. The bird life on the hills...

    Bay of Biscay birds

Thanks for the advice. I've now booked for a Company of Whales trip in August as it seems it would be the better option. It's just a shame that it goes from Portsmouth and not Plymouth and that the Plymouth to Santander route is not so good. Here's hoping for good weather!
