    It can't be an albatross....

It's more likely many of the birds that have been suggested than an albatross. I'm going to be bold here and rule out Ivory-billed Woodpecker, Black and White Warbler and even Black Tern.

    Sparrow from Zanzibar

This ebird abundance chart covering Zanzibar confirms the above.

    Twite or linnet

A good Linnet feature is a pale spot on the cheek, I've borrowed this picture from the internet of a juvenile that shows it.

Best european seawatching spots for (seawatching) beginner

It's how a lot of us learned seawatching, but you aren't getting any input from others to learn from. I would agree with others about going to Cornwall / Bridges of Ross / Estaca de Bares at the best times of year if you have the time and resources to do so.

Not up to your usual standard of topical social media posts shared Phil 😂

    Birding In The Outer Hebrides

I found 40 on trivago. Not Blackpool or similar I guess but I'd still say plenty. Probably depends on selected dates.

    Birding In The Outer Hebrides

There are plenty of Hebrides options on Trivago, Booking.com etc. A bigger issue given birders are often frugal is cost.

A bird of prey in the tower hide at Attenborough.

It always helps to mention at the outset distinctive features you saw in the field, in this case that information and the video point to Hobby.

Is it likely or improbable or somewhere in between I saw a short eared owl at Attenborough nature reserve in Nottinghamshire today?

Fair enough. If you've made that judgement off VonMaunder's posting of an American Bittern image do let us all know when you when see one at Attenborough though as a lot of people would be keen to see it.

Is it likely or improbable or somewhere in between I saw a short eared owl at Attenborough nature reserve in Nottinghamshire today?

I sense you're being sarcastic, but he also said 'just enough time to get a full view'. If you think mistakes of this magnitude aren't made with fly by birds there's not a lot I can say other than they are.

A bird of prey in the tower hide at Attenborough.

Well quite. It might well be a female Sparrowhawk, but personally I wouldn't be putting a species name to it.

Is it likely or improbable or somewhere in between I saw a short eared owl at Attenborough nature reserve in Nottinghamshire today?

I think in the situation described of a brief view with no experience of either species it's perfectly possible.

    Namibia Sandpiper or Stint

Neither I would say, one of the sandplovers.

Spotted very large perched bird of prey in County Durham, UK

This thread from the get go included balance, and many responses weren't 'kneejerk'.

Would you tick the male White Stork at Knepp?

With respect I've just given an example in England where that simply isn't true. They don't care that their birds wander as far as Scotland without rings on.

Would you tick the male White Stork at Knepp?

Just one example. Free flying unringed storks known to wander to another country. Former owners prosecuted for letting another species wander. What do you think they would say if you ask if they've lost any storks...

Would you tick the male White Stork at Knepp?

We know there are a number of unringed storks free flying in Britain. When was the last time one was seen lingering that had bling which proved it was from the Continent? The words 'to all appearances wild' and 'arguably' are doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

    Fair Isle Bird Observatory

I guess it should say latest update rather than last update.

Which Species Will Be the Next to Breed in the UK?

At the risk of being pedantic we'd have no way of knowing. We don't know that those three species have definitely only ever bred once.

Which Species Will Be the Next to Breed in the UK?

They are only collecting those records because the species is a potential breeder. Nowhere have I said one bird can breed.

Which Species Will Be the Next to Breed in the UK?

We are making the same point Paul.

Which Species Will Be the Next to Breed in the UK?

Why would a Rare Breeding Birds Panel accept records for species if they didn't think they might breed?

ID help please - Foulshaw Moss UK

I don't think you could safely put a name on it. If it was closer to the egret it might be possible to judge the size better. That said, this is Birdforum and you might get several different species suggested...

Which Species Will Be the Next to Breed in the UK?

Pallid Harrier doesn't feel a bad shout, though you'd be fearful for them in some areas including where one male held territory a few years back. Swinhoe's Petrel? But let's face it we'd probably never know, it may already have happened. Lesser Scaup or Ring-necked Duck maybe.
