Great capture and a perfectly good example of what natural behaviour really is about! Good prove of the fact that people can't constantly blame Foxes, Crows and Magpies etc. as 'natures bad guys' . . . . . since -mostly out of sight- there's a little bit more going on! thanks for sharing...

Comment by 'rupicola' in media 'Perfect Camouflage'

This is a very nice example of effective camouflage, although you did find him! :) Also notice sunlight and shade breaking the birds contours. the species is not Pionus though, but Aratinga leucophthalmus (White-eyed Parakeet) Thanks for sharing! regards

Comment by 'rupicola' in media 'new to my region'

very nica capture with great detail! The bird itselfs is in a rather poor condition though! (Moult and ruffled feathers) BUT . . . . . I thought this species should be green all over, at least on wings, tail and (lighter) green on underparts! So what do we have here: a subspecies, a juvenile...

Comment by 'rupicola' in media 'Common Ground-Doves'

I sure do like this capture too, but these are no Common Grond Doves! As a matter of fact they don't even belong to Genus Columbina. These are Eared Doves, Zenaida auriculata. regards

Comment by 'rupicola' in media 'Alexandrine Parakeet'

I don't want to spoil the fun here but this particular bird is not Psittacula krameri, rose-ringed Parakeet! This is Psittacula eupatria, Alexandrine Parakeet. regards

Comment by 'rupicola' in media 'Black headed weaver'

This weaver in Algarve is very likely to be an escapee. Considering the large amount of species within Genus Ploceus and no acurate information about it's origine distribution available the identification of Ploceus is not that easy. Besides that the accurate size of birds is proven to be...

Comment by 'rupicola' in media 'Spix Macaws'

Great work, they appear almost to be alive! The story about this species is a sad one though! Anyone interested should read 'Spix Macaw, the race to save the World's rarest bird' by Tony Juniper. Hopefully the Spix Macaw can be reintroduced from captivity to the wild some day. Thanks for...

Comment by 'rupicola' in media 'can some1 tell me what this bird is'

Yep, a male Zebra finch in already poor condition. As an escapee it's chances in the wild are not so good. A recapture is probably the best if not only option for him to survive. If it is still around it needs little seeds and fresh water ASAP! regards
