Nikon SE and Zeiss SF 8x32 comparison.

Somewhere in the tropics, but I assumed he meant close to overhead, not technically 90 degrees zenith.

    Nikon SE

I love both of my SE’s but that’s not true at all.

    Curio Whoopsie!

That’s all true, and I love my Curios, but there have been more instances of this specific problem, focus knobs just falling off, than normal happenstance. I can understand the occasional random lemon, but such a weird specific problem repeated at a pretty high rate. That said, I’ll be holding...

    Curio Whoopsie!

What a strange problem. I have a 7x21 Curio and so far it’s been a great binocular, but now I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. There was another thread on this several months ago, at first I was skeptical as mine were so good, but enough credible posters chimed in with the exact same...

    A few quick thoughts, 7X35 vs. 8X32

Thanks for the reply 😊. The 10x42 is light but bulky, typical for a porro. The Retrovid might actually be heavier, but so sleek and definitely lighter than the UV NV. I think you’re right about Jack O’Connor.

    A few quick thoughts, 7X35 vs. 8X32

It would be funny to own only two high quality ten power binoculars neither of which are waterproof.

    A few quick thoughts, 7X35 vs. 8X32

Now that it’s discontinued, I’m thinking about the 10x40. I’m pretty set on six, seven and eight power binoculars, but the SE is my only ten. It seems like it could be a nice, trim ten power with Leica optics.

    A few quick thoughts, 7X35 vs. 8X32

Tomorrow is the last day of a ten day, eastern Montana “wildlife viewing” trip. During this trip I am searching for and observing game up to two miles away, so I thought my 10x42 SEs would be the cat’s meow. Problem is we hike six to ten miles a day over rough terrain, so a more compact...

    Thank you, I learned something.

    A few quick thoughts, 7X35 vs. 8X32

I don’t even know what that is. Can you explain? I understand F stops from photography, so I assume it has something to do with the ratio of aperture size to focal length?

    A few quick thoughts, 7X35 vs. 8X32

I’m certain without any inside information that Leica uses the highest quality glass available, Leica is famous for their camera lenses. I’ve always assumed the CA, what little there is, was a design trade off from fitting all those optics in that compact Leica package. It seems that Leica, from...

    A few quick thoughts, 7X35 vs. 8X32

We used to get the Eddie Bauer catalog and drool all over the cool, rich man’s gear. Eddie Bauer catered to the wealthy outdoorsman and the catalog was full of all that high end gear. That’s where I first saw the old Leitz Trinovid roof prism binoculars. Wow! They looked so futuristic and...

Waterproofness and your use of binoculars

The ability to clean and rinse your binoculars under the kitchen faucet is a cool and helpful bonus. I do it with my Ultravids all the time. I miss that feature when I’m cleaning my SEs and Retrovids. Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating for less waterproofing being better, I’d love...

Waterproofness and your use of binoculars

I too wondered why people make such a big deal out of waterproof, why a lack of it was a dealbreaker for so many. Part of my lack of understanding is due to the fact I live in relatively dry Montana where rainy days are rare. I honestly can’t remember ever using my binoculars in the rain in the...

Waterproofness and your use of binoculars

Wow, kind of overreacting a bit it seems to me. I thought the OP was thoughtful and not a bit presumptuous. Obviously there are people who do use their bins in the rain, and those that live in predominantly rainy environments, but I wonder what the percentage actually is.

Leica Hdplus 7x42 vs Trinovid 7x35

How often does it rain there? I’m guessing a lot if lack of waterproofing is a dealbreaker for you.

    Ultravid 7x42 HD+ vs Noctivid 8x42

I had planned on selling my 2010 vintage 8x42 BRs to upgrade to a Noctovid. My BRs were in the shop for nine months without selling, so I went back to pick them up. My BRs are super clean, almost like new so I tested them side by side with the Noctovids. Man, they were very close, certainly not...

    Ultravid 7x42 HD+ vs Noctivid 8x42

I’ll add to Chilli’s excellent suggestion, your 2012-2015 Trinovids are real sleepers. Current Trinovids are viewed as an entry level Leica and are priced accordingly. Very good Leica optics, but clearly a level below the Ultravids. Somehow they slipped up in 2012 and built a too good Trinovid...

    Habicht for birdwatching?

How about the 8x32 SE? I’m not really a birdwatcher, but I own both the 8x32 and 10x24 SEs and love them both, especially the silky smooth focusers. That said, they stiffen up In below freezing weather, but still usable.

Who would actually buy 7x32 Ultravids?

I love my 7x35 Retrovid, but if I didn’t have that, I’d buy one.

    12X42 NL Pure resale value

Yeah but, for some reason, when I find a hunter here in Montana with high end binos around his neck, odds are they’re Swarovski. I seem to be the odd man out with my Leica’s. You’re right though, most hunters are using Vortex, Leupold or Nikon Monarchs.

    Noctivid eyecups

I get the 8x32s being troublesome, but I’m surprised the 7x42 don’t work for you.

    Noctivid 8x42- wow!

This is an old thread, so maybe too late, but please, don’t go looking for CA. Just continue to use and enjoy your fine binoculars. You could drive yourself crazy, obsessing over minute faults which every binocular has somewhere. It sounds like the Noctovids are perfect for you, just enjoy them.

    Noctivid eyecups

So they have too much eye relief, they’d work better for you with longer eye cups? I’m a big Leica fan, love the image, but the 32 size BNs and Ultravids are too finicky. The 42 size are fine, as are my 7x35 Retrovids. I tried the 10x42 Noctovids in the store and they were fine. Like you, I also...

Leica is not getting the attention it deserves

Yep, that’s funny. The 8x32 Leica is the only one that I get blackouts with. The 42 size buns are fine. I have deep set eyes and don’t wear glasses with my bins, if that matters.
