    tiv-re, tiv-re, tiv-re. What bird call is this ?

"Chip-pee, chip-pee?" Begging call of an American Goldfinch? rkj's Carolina Wren is possible as well.

    Empidonax flycatcher, Florida

Probably Yellow-bellied. The primary extension and eye ring shape are consistent. I referenced Lee and Birch's North American Flycatchers, which turns out, is a major source for The Fern's Opus reference. So, full circle.

Help with finch ID in PA

Agree on the cowbird. It's already in (pre-formative?) molt, growing in its dark wings.

    Hello from Western North Carolina!

Hi O'D. So, it's a night creature, obviously. We can rule out owls in your area. Can't comment on herps. Kind of leaves the nightjars. I can't figure out the odd, scratching two-note intro, but the four-part sounds like an aberrant or poorly-developed Whip-poor-will vocalization. Beyond that...

    Monarch Fieldscope 60ED-A Review

Yeah, the jumping lens is an issue. I have a Pixel 8 Pro which has a mode that allows me to manually select which lens to use. I don't know if a Razor has that option, but it's worth a Google.

    Monarch Fieldscope 60ED-A Review

Practice indeed! My Android phone sits fairly well (handheld) on the fully extended eye cup. I have the Monarch ED-82a, and was using the 38x WF eyepiece yesterday. This would be the 30x on your scope. This is an uncropped, unedited digiscoped photo of a Cassin's Kingbird. Close range - maybe...

Lisa, I've looked through this scope and it's very nice. At that price, jump on it!

    ebird in China

Niels, were you off-line, without data connection? I interpret that such was the OP's question. If I put my phone in Airplane Mode, eBird explore presents an error.

    ebird in China

Can't help you with whether Google maps is available in China. For the rest, I presume you're talking about the eBird app. To record your sightings with the eBird app, if you have the proper packs for the area installed, eBird will work off-line. Your location is from your phone's GPS chip, as...

Brief comparison berween MHG VS EDG '8X42'

Many on these threads decry MIC. Some for political reasons - that's their prerogative. But to say that the quality of all MIC products is poor just doesn't hold water. If the quality control and production standards are set well, great products can be produced. Take a look at a Nikon Monarch ED...

Seeing 5 red tailed hawks together?

If you're seeing than now, it's probably a family group. I see groups around here in SE AZ, it's usually the juveniles pestering the adults for food!

    Broad-tailed Hummingbird (Wyoming-US)??

Great photo! Bill curvature, reduced rufous in flanks, and throat markings point to BTHU. Side or back photos would have helped.

Question about the 30x/38x Monarch eyepiece

Hi Jfsp - it's a stubby chunk of glass, fatter but lighter than the zooms. The field of view is expansive and immersive - you can kinda look all around the field, rather than the feel of looking down a tube. Per the spec sheet in the instruction book, the field of view is nearly the same as...

Help with AZ Hummingbird ID please

Well marked Broad-billed. One might think White-eared, but the bill is much too long. Dark central tail feather (vs greenish) consistent with BBIH.

Røde makes an iPhone compatible version of the VideoMicMe as well. Sorry, that may have been what you were referring to.
