Taxonomy

This species has previously been lumped with Ashy-bellied White-eye, but all major authorities now consider these two different species. Clements Checklist up to the 6th edition uses the name Yellow-bellied White-eye for Lemon-bellied White-eye. The name Mangrove White-eye has also been used for this species, however, that name has also been used for a species from Australia, Australian Yellow White-eye.
