Identification

Length 10-12 cm (4-4¾ in)

• Small, plain brown,
• Pale grey crown
• White tip to tail

Distribution

Africa: found in southern Sudan, southern Ethiopia, northern Uganda, northern and western Kenya and north-central Tanzania.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies^[1]:

• P. a. arnaudi:

• Southwestern Sudan, eastern South Sudan, extreme southern Ethiopia, southern Somalia, northeastern Uganda, Kenya, and extreme northern Tanzania

• P. a. dorsalis:

• West and central Tanzania

Habitat

Dry acacia bush, scrub, croplands.

Behaviour

Diet

Their varied diet consists of grass seeds and insects, including grasshoppers, beetles, termites and caterpillars.
