Two passerines from the mountains of Tajikistan

Hi Phil - Rufous-tailed Rock-thrush for sure, mottled underparts etc. Second bird is a Black Redstart, too buff on underparts for White-winged + very narrow eye-ring. James

Hiking Phnom Aural for Cambodian Laughingthrush

Day-tripping Aural for the laughingthrush is more-or-less impossible - no way would I recommend it. It's a hike that takes much of the day to reach the elevation of the bird, then you have to find it, and then walk back down. It's also a drive to/from the start of the trail to avoid a flat walk...

    House Crows in Eastern Thailand

Laem Chabang has held 100+ birds for several years now. Otherwise, it's very common on Phuket, has been for decades. Both populations would have been ship-assisted. James

Possible for Hill blue flycatcher? from park in Bangkok, Thailand

Looks like a female Hainan Blue Flycatcher - orange not extensive enough down flanks for Hill.

Leaf Warbler in Sichuan, China, July

Sichuan Leaf Warbler. For these guys, process of elimination makes life easier: 1) central crown stripe (yes - rules out Greenish, Large-billed, Hume's) 2) large vs small bill (small - so can't be Claudia's / Kloss's / Emei) 3) dark base to tertails (no - rules out Chinese) James

Sichuan Leaf Warbler (See ear-covert pattern).

    Latest IOC Diary Updates

The Accipter carving-up was already implemented in the Indonesian Archipelago field guide few years ago, and I believe you're correct, as we used Tachyspiza nana in the book. James

Waigeo ? Azure Dollarbird record 2019

Genetic evidence points to Australasian taxa being more closely related to Azure Dollarbird than Asian taxa, yes, though conclusion is a larger sample size required in Eastern Indonesia (as is so often the case, unfortunately). See...

Waigeo ? Azure Dollarbird record 2019

Phil - the resident race, waigiouensis, which appears to be uncommon, is extremely similar to Azure Dollarbird. I reviewed a paper a while ago rejecting a claim of Azure Dollarbird on Waigeo based on this - I would recommend details just how distinct waigiouensis is from other Oriental...

    Honey-buzzard sp, Kazakhstan

I agree with comments above - European Honeybuzzard - I'm always surprised when I see EHB, how lightweight and well-proportioned they appear compared to OHB, even in photos. I've spent quite a bit of time in that area of the steppe, and not seen OHB - would be a nice vagrnt record. I see OHB...

    Uzbekistan Flycatcher

It's a very common migrant through Uzbekistan - I've seen passing through in numbers, especially at any desert oasis. James

Leaf Warbler Identification - Lake Miyagase, Kanagawa, Japan

Brightening up the photo helps - it's an Eastern Crowned Warbler. Note - all orange lower mandible (Japanese would have large dark smudge) Supercilium shape (your bird tapers behind eye) and crown colour (greenish, no contrast with upperparts) rule out Sakhalin Also, undertail coverts can just...

    Swiftlet from Kinabalu, Malaysia

Given the lack of tail notch on the closed tail, I would say it's an Aerodramus. I really struggle to identify Giant Swiftlet from photos, as for me, it's flight action and size rather than plumage features when I see them in the field. I would add, your bird doesn't long long enough at the rear...

    Warblers - Samarkand, Uzbekistan

You're correct with all with following exception: 2. Lesser Whitethroat - lacks the bill size + iris colour of Eastern Orphean 10 - to confirm, yes, Hume's Leaf Warbler, just getting a bit excited as they frequently do at this time of year, before they start uttering full song.
