Yellow-rumped Warbler
This migrant is a male in breeding plumage. The name "coronata" refers to the usually concealed yellow crown patch visible in this photo. This is the nominate Eastern form "S. c. coronata" ("S. c. hooveri" is a synonym) formerly known as "Myrtle Warbler" showing its white throat. It is still treated as a separate species by IOC, but lumped with "Myrtle Warbler" by Clements and AOS based on extensive hybridization in their zone of contact in the Southern Canadian Rockies. Formerly placed in the genus "Dendroica."
Location
Smith Oaks Sanctuary, High Island, Texas, USA
Date taken
22 Apr 2021.
Scientific name
Setophaga coronata
I like the lichen covered branches which provide a lovely background for this well detailed portrait, Joseph.
