Yellow-faced Grassquit (male)
Yellow-faced Grassquit (Tiaris olivaceus pusillus) Five subspecies are recognized with a single subspecies occurring in Costa Rica, subspecies pusillus. Found on both the Pacific and Atlantic sides of Costa Rica but apparently absent from dry lowlands of the northwest. It can be found from sea level to ca. 2,012 m (6,600 ft) elevation. Photographed in the Los Angeles Cloud Forest on Villa Blanca Cloud Forest Hotel property. Los Angeles de San Ramn, Alajuela Province, Costa Rica. Roadside, subtropical moist-wet forest at ca. 1,097 m ( 3,600 ft) elevation. Females olive green, lacking black on chest, face and crown, also lacking bright yellow throat and superciliaries.
