Yellow-crowned night heron juvenile (Nyctanassa violacea)

This juvenile bird is new to the lagoon that I count birds by kayak. It had absolutely no fear of me. Still, I'm always pleased when I can leave the bird in exactly the same position and countenance as when I first saw it.

Every time I see one of these Herons I think they look like a mature Wiseman. They can stay still for a long time and have the patience of Job.

It has two legs. It just has the other tucked up resting or warming the appendage. In this case - it must be resting - it is hot as heck in Florida right now!

Thank you! I'm so lucky to be able to watch birds from my kayak. I can get places that cannot be walked to. I don't know why birds let me get as close as they do while in my yak.
