Velvet-purple Coronet
A medium-sized hummingbird with a very restricted range in western Colombia and Ecuador in moist cloud forest and edges in the lower subtropical zone. We watched several individuals feeding on both feeders and flowering shrubs at the fabulous Refugio Paz de las Aves near Mindo (Pichincha/Ecuador). Despite the number of birds present virtually none were in full breeding plumage so not as dramatic shots as we got last year in Colombia
