Two-tailed Swallowtail (Papilio multicaudata)

This is the official state butterfly of Arizona. The extra tail is the short inner one, not very obvious. Otherwise this species is larger than the Western Tiger Swallowtail which also may occur in this area, but has narrower dark "tiger stripes." These two are mud-puddling.
Location
Huachuca Canyon, Sierra Vista, Arizona, USA
Date taken
31 July 2022.

Swallowtails are such a widespread butterfly, aren't they.... sadly I've never seen one, as we don't get them in Scotland!!

A fabulous picture of this pair Joe - well done laddie.
