I was focusing on taking pictures of hunting ospreys and bald eagles, during nesting season at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, in Md, USA, when I drove past a tree and noticed 3 Turkey Vultures all sitting in different branches. This was rather surprising given that it was the middle of the afternoon on a day that was relatively warm, and there was no sign of any carcass nearby. I started taking pictures, and chose this one since it shows all the features of this large bird simultaneously (without needing any further modification of the image). Vultures are rarely, if ever, portrayed as majestic birds - yet they are an essential part of our ecosystem, and I think that we should, sometimes, look more closely at these birds as well.
