Toque Macaque (Macaca sinica)

A family group with adults and young visiting a water hole. Note the wispy curl of hair on their heads like a Dr. Seuss character. Named for a kind of brimless hat, they are an endangered Sri Lanka endemic. Main threats are habitat destruction, hunting and capture for the pet trade. Of three subspecies this is the nominate "Dry Zone Toque Macaque." Adults of this race have a pink face and relatively short hair.
Location
Bundala National Park, Weligatta, Sri Lanka.
Date taken
03 January 2025.
I have seen them in a BBC nature program of Sri Lanka, a land of wildlife I had little knowledge of, especially the highest lands. This is an exceptional behavioral photograph, I envy you, great work!
