Temminck's stint (?) in flight
Habitat
fjord shore
Location
Vadsøya, Finnmark, Norway
Date taken
25/05/2022
Scientific name
Calidris temminckii
Hello,

excellent flight shot. Tfs!

But it isnt a Ruff imo, as the legs doesnt project the tail and the bill seems to small/dainty (and the underwing seems off).

Its either a Temmincks or a Little Stint imo, but which one?

At first, I got a Temmincks vibe here. But after downloading the picture I noticed:
  • dark legs? Or are they olive-yellowish with mud?
  • head and breast pattern with distinct "peppered" blackish spots on a whitish/pale cream background. Therefor better for a Little Stint? (yes,it seems a good pattern for some Little Stint/Sanderlings but not for a Temmnicks)
  • But the outer tail feathers seems white and the tail strangly pointed.
Conclusion? If forced, I would opt for a Temmincks Stint, but with a bad feeling.

Do you have more pictures? Is it possible to post your picture(s) on Bird Identification Q&A?
