Remnants
We were making our way back to the dock now and passed these two mangrove plants. The sole remaining specimens in the harbour area and probably for many miles.

I think virtually the whole coast had mangroves growing there in the past.
Habitat
Harbour
Location
Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia
Date taken
14 October 2019
Scientific name
Avicenna marina australasica
Equipment used
Nikon Coolpix P900 Birdwatching mode
Looking at this pic., D, I like to imagine that Mr Mangrove Plant on the left and Miss Mangrove Plant on the right every night creep towards one another and enjoy a surreptitious kiss and a cuddle in the moonlight. One morning, Australians will wake to find the whole coast repopulated with little Baby Mangrove Plants, and the world will be as once it was before the men with saws arrived.

Such a sad and sweet shot, D. Well captured.

one can only imagine how wonderful it must have been, many thanks for sharing this interesting photo, Delia!!

Some places, elsewhere in the world, mangrove forests are being replanted to protect the shores against storms.
