Not going for "cuteness" today. These three aren't even all that great photos. But it was kind of a thrill seeing these beasts close up. The turkey vultures (there were two of them here) were quite close to the trail - downright ugly birds doing a downright ugly but necessary task: feeding on a dead wader. It's hard to beat these guys for ugliness, with those scaly red heads, the see-through nostrils, the bulgingly hooded eyes, the dingy brown-black plumage with random white patches that look as if gulls had pooped on them. But it was, as I said, rather a thrill to see them up close and feeding, not to mention the close flyover when they took off.
