Male, Yellow-bellied sapsucker
These in my humble opinion are up there with the Pileated Woodpeckers. I heard they are related to the Downy Woodpecker.

Location
Summerville, South Carolina, USA

Sphyrapicus varius

Nikon Coolpix p-1000
A beautifully lit and detailed close up portrait, Daniel.

what a beauty, Daniel, and a marvelous photo with awesome details and colors, a real wowzer, many tfs!!

Superb capture of this sapsucker. The black border around its red throat helps to distinguish it from the Red-naped Sapsucker (eBird details).
