Kori Bustard
This is said to be the heaviest flying bird with males weighing up to 42 lbs or more. However, they prefer to walk with long strides instead of flying. They form a superspecies with the similar Indian (Ardeotis nigriceps) and Australian Bustards (Ardeotis australis). They continue to decline and are now listed as "near threatened" by Birdlife International despite their extensive range. Formerly classified in the genus "Choriotis", but "Ardeotis" has priority. In the past they were included with the Cranes in the order Gruiformes. However, they are now in their own order (Otidiformes) and in their own family (Otididae).
