Golden-crowned sparrow (Zonotrichia atricapilla)

Our wintering Golden-crowned sparrows are molting into their spring plumage and will head northward soon. This bird will look less scruffy in a few days, I'll bet.

Good clear shot, Doug, thanks. I've been photographing this bird for two seasons now, and I've never gotten the crown any brighter than this.
 
But he looks so cute when he's scruffy :) Nice shot. There are only a couple places near me where I've seen these guys. They seem a lot less common than the white crowns.
