Flame-colored Tanager (Piranga bidentata citrea) Four subspecies are recognized with only subspecies citrea being found in the highlands of Costa Rica. Photographed this female at Dantica Cloud Forest Lodge sitting on the north rim of Quetzal Valley overlooking San Gerardo de Dota, Cordillera de Talamanca, San Jos Province, Costa Rica. Upper montane cloud forest dominated by oaks at ca. 2,800 m (9,186 ft) elevation. Species sexually dimorphic.

The colors and wing bars are very reminiscent of a juvenile, female Bullock's oriole (at least in this photo, they seem to be). Super shot!
