Dunlin
Dunlin is one of the most common wintering shorebirds in San Francisco Bay with about 85,000 individuals, second only to the Western Sandpiper. These are in winter plumage. Notice the brown bib as well as the rather long bill with a distinct droop at the tip. The three birds on the right are typical, but the one on the upper left seems somewhat paler. Of the nine or so recognized subspecies, birds wintering on the West Coast are "C. a. pacifica" characterized by large size and long bill.
