Common Potoo (Nyctibius griseus)

Though we heard Potoos at night at Asa Wright (a melancholic mournful 'poor me one' ) we never got a good daytime view. I had hoped to get a classical shot of a bird on the end of a stump with an extended neck but it wasn't to be. This image was taken from a boat in the mangroves of Caroni swamp.
The small 'nicks' in the upper eyelid can be seen -these allow roosting birds with closed eyes to still see what is going on.
