Snowy Sheathbill

Snowy Sheathbill (Chionis albus)

It is usually found on the ground. It is the only land bird native to the Antarctic continent.
Typically unafraid; walks around boldly to scavenge and even eat faeces. Plumage entirely white (somehow remarkably clean given its habits) with a naked pale pinkish face and a pale green and orange bill. Flies strongly with stiff wingbeats; does not alight on water, but will hitch rides on ships (as is the case here).

My grandson and I found this bird on a program we viewed, a lone bird in a Penguin colony. I really worked to locate it afterwards. My Patagonian bird guide shows this fine enough, but yours is an exceptional photograph!
