While we were watching the pretty Wheatears on the dry stone dyke behind the car, suddenly a Eurasian Sparrowhawk swooped over the bonnet and headed for the dyke.

Remember I mentioned a big black hole a couple of weeks ago, well he landed right there, and spread his wings for a moment cowling over it. Eventually he moved away, up onto the nearby gate post before flying off.

We went over to investigate the area by the hole, but no sign of feathers and he hadn't got one in his talons when he moved away, so appears the wheatear escaped.

Fantastic picture of this gorgeous Sparrowhawk taken in a brilliant setting. That yellow eye really pops with its grey plumage and the grey rock. Excellent work D! TFS!
 
Terrific capture of the Sparrowhawk, Deli! Nice to hear that the Wheatear escaped.
I scared the life out of our female Sparrowhawk when I was filling the feeders yesterday. She made a lot of noise and fled into the neighbours' garden.
