Rainbow-bearded Thornbill

Rainbow-bearded Thornbill (Chalcostigma herrani)

A spectacular short-billed hummingbird of the high Andes and one of the most wanted birds of this trip. Despite the best attempts of the resident pair of Glossy Flowerpiercers to chase him off this male spent over an hour (on and off) giving us superb views. As usual with hummers feeding away from feeder a challenge to photograph and no one angle can catch all the fantastic colours and patterns of this bird.
