A quick view of that remnant of tidal marsh at Bayfront Park, Millbrae. Here it's partially hidden under a rising tide. Most visible of the "hundreds and thousands" are American Avocets standing in the shallows and (mostly, I think) Willets waiting out the tide along the shore. There were likely also Least and Western Sandpipers there and some number of Grey Plovers, but too far off to separate out and count them visually.
Oh, and how thick was the fog? It's hiding the runways and parking tarmac of the San Francisco Airport right behind those trees, the San Francisco Bay behind that, and the Oakland Hills behind that again. Only a hundred or so yards of tidal marsh and shallows visible.
