Mississippi Kites (Juvenile and possible adult)
Mississippi Kites (Ictinia mississippiensis) Juvenile appearing with two tails, possible adult on the right. Taken from my backyard, two from a group of fourteen. This time of year the juveniles are still holding on to some of their first tail feathers while the adult tail feathers are growing in making them have a partial double tail. The possible adult could be a 1st year bird that is just further along in its adult molt than the one on the left.
Habitat
Post Oak Savannah vegetation area. Urban setting, with native and non native vegetation at ca.91 m (300 ft) elevation
