Great Black-backed Gull
The largest and heaviest North American Gull, they range through the North Atlantic region. Up until 1966 when the first nests were found, they were known only as winter visitors to New Jersey. They have since expanded their breeding range south as far as North Carolina and are now common in New Jersey year round.
