Destroyer
We weren't far off completing our loop around the lake when we first saw a Hoary-headed Grebe, then noticed a Coot on what was obviously a grebe nest.

I can't remember now who first realised, but it became clear that the coot was destroying the nest, or maybe it was stealing the nesting material for his own nest!
Habitat
Ephemeral lake in city centre
Location
Lake Claremont, Perth, Western Australia
Date taken
17 November 2019
Scientific name
Poliocephalus poliocephalus, Fulica atra
Equipment used
Nikon Coolpix P900 Birdwatching mode
A dramatically lit image, with a tale of high drama ("every picture tells a story, don't it" someone sang). I'd prefer to think the coot was pinching material for its own nest, rather than wantonly destroying the grebes' nest. We shall never know!
