Band-tailed Pigeon (Patagioenas fasciata)

We've been seeing a flock of these before sunrise for a couple weeks but I couldn't identify them until this one stopped just as the sun came up. I've never seen these birds before and was sorry I missed catching the iridescent coloring on the back of the neck.

....but you got some on his shoulder Vicki!! What a great picture you've taken of him.

This is a pretty rare visitor to the Gallery too; a couple of years since we last saw one here.

Let's hope they come back to you again and you get more chances to get pictures. They're quite a pretty pigeon, aren't they.

A fantastic setting for a stunning, detailed shot of this beautiful bird, Vicki !!! Thanks for sharing

Beautiful shot! And thanks for the close-up. Now I know what to look for ... if I ever get the chance.

Well, you caught it in the habitat they are noted for and I'm sure a species I will never see as it is confined to the west coast. Lucky you and such a beautiful image of it Vicki. Congrats on your lifer girl.

Brilliant profile of this gorgeous Pigeon Vicki! Not the easiest of birds to photograph, at least they have not been for me. I will see a hundred or more before I get close enough to take one descent picture (lol). Superb!!!!!
