Glaucous Gull

Glaucous Gull (Larus hyperboreus)

One of our winter gulls. We get a small number of what they call "white winged" gulls that come down in to our area during the winter. These gulls breed in the high artic and spend most of their lives far north of us.The Glaucous and the Iceland Gulls both do not have black markings on wingtips and are therefore referred to as "white winged" gulls. The younger ones, like this one, can have a kind of dusky look over all but still no defined black wingtips.
