American Avocet (nonbreeding adults) (Recurvirostra americana)

American Avocet (Recurvirostra americana) Sexes similar but the female has a more abruptly upward turned bill at the distal end than the male. Photographed along Boliver Peninsula at Fort Travis Seashore Park along the Gulf of Mexico, Galveston County, Texas, USA. American Avocets can be found throughout Texas and are found year round along the Gulf Coast; they breed in the Texas Panhandle and they show up as migrants elsewhere. Mud flats. The female is in the foreground and the male is in the background.

Beautiful lines in this image! You've really captured the grace of their flight perfectly. I also like watching these birds feed. Their side-to-side technique is so different from the other waders.
