Barred Antshrike (male)
Barred Antshrike (Thamnophilus doliatus nigricristatus) There are twelve recognized subspecies with four of these being mapped for Panama. Subspecies intermedius only reaches western Panama, subspecies nesiotes is found on the Pearl Islands while subspecies eremnus is found on Coiba Island. Subspecies nigricistatus is found throughout Central Panama. Photographed in a small secondary growth tree. These trees were lining a one lane dirt road running through pasture land near Chiru, Cocle Province, Panama at an elevation of 8.8 m (29 ft). Species sexually dimorphic.
