Variable Seedeater (male)
Variable Seedeater (Sporophila corvina corvina) Four subspecies are recognized with two being in Costa Rica. The nominate is found on the Caribbean side and subspecies hoffmannii is found on the Pacific side. Photographed in Sarapiqu, Heredia Province, Costa Rica. Caribbean slope at 41 m (137 ft) elevation. Excellent capture, good exposure to show the details of the black feather. The beak of the female looks like the upper side is shorter, but not in the male. Is it due to the angle?
