Sparrowhawk with prey

Sparrowhawk with prey (Accipiter nisus)

Seeing as the local Sparrowhawks appear to have failing eyesight, I thought I'd upload a pic as a reminder of what they were like before they needed glasses|=)|

I've counted over 40 attacks over the last few days (8 this morning), but there's not been one successful kill. Obviously they are killing somewhere, but nowhere locally within earshot. Last successful attack was by a male 6 days ago (prey was Great Tit or Sparrow)

Through the window; poor light (1/50th second shutter).

Great shot , i just had one in my garden causing a starling to fly into the window. The sparrowhawk was chased out of the tree by two magpies, and the starling once recoverd flew away.No doubt he will be back .

Excellent color and clarity of the hawk's eye, Chris. Whenever i see a raptor in action, I am always drawn to watch to see if the attack was a success and whether a kill was made.

Ioway
