Spix Macaws
It been awhile but as well as getting ready for an exhibition at Slimbridge at the end of the year I have been painting Parrots to help raise funds with the World parrot trust for conservation work. These Spixs and the habitat were helped by the Brazilian photographer who photographed the last Spix in the wild.
Habitat
yellow caraiba tree
Date taken
22nd July
Scientific name
Cyanopsitta spixii
Equipment used
acrylic
Absolutely nice picture and especially appealing to me as Tony Juniper's book on this species was one of my favourite books.

Thank you Andrew I havnt read the book yet. Im hoping the Spixes are accurate it took a bit of time and a few false starts and repainting. It the first bird I have painted and not seen. It may not be finished yet.

What a stunning painting of this extremely rare beauty, Griff. The first painting into my favs.

I'm with Andrew on Tony Juniper's book. It is a "must read". :king:

Hope the fundraiser, and your exhibition, are successful. :t:

Great work, they appear almost to be alive!

The story about this species is a sad one though!

Anyone interested should read 'Spix Macaw, the race to save the World's rarest bird' by Tony Juniper.

Hopefully the Spix Macaw can be reintroduced from captivity to the wild some day.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful artwork!

Regards
