Clay-colored Sparrow
Special thanks to Lee-Hong Chang for finding this bird today. This is a scarce migrant in California. These small sparrows can easily be confused with other species especially Brewer's Sparrow and Chipping Sparrow. Note the pale lores and unstreaked gray nape. Indistinct median line, buffy chest, and faint streaking on sides and flanks suggest this is an immature bird (formative plumage).
Location
Forbes Cove, South San Francisco, California, USA.
Date taken
24 October 2022.
Scientific name
Spizella pallida

A great image of this Clay-colored Sparrow Joseph.

I was the first one to find one for Myrtle Beach and report it to the Carolina Birds Assoc. ;)
