Cardinal in the Snow (Cardinalis cardinalis)

There is nothing quite like the blaze of color of a male Northern Cardinal in the slate greys of the winter landscape. This photo was taken during the snow storm last week. The bird was perched in my Hydrangea tree deciding if the lens poking out of the hide was a problem but eventually he flew into the feeder for his share of the sunflower hearts. Such a pretty fellow!

Oh, Deanne, I'm absolutely in love with these series of pics of birds under the sleet or snow! Those tiny snowflakes over the red feathers make the Cardinal look gorgeous (even if the poor little thing must be frozen... and maybe you too in the hide? ;) ). Many :up: !

Just beautiful, Deanne! The first thought that comes to my mind is 'how is it possible for this flame-like creature to live in the midst of snow? Maybe it is for warming up the hearts of those who look at it!
By the way, yesterday we had 35C here!
